Background of the Study
Conflict resolution is a critical process in fostering peace and stability in communities prone to social, ethnic, or religious tensions. Public relations (PR) serves as a vital tool in conflict resolution by facilitating communication, building trust, and promoting mutual understanding among conflicting parties. In Jos North Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State, which has experienced recurring communal conflicts, PR strategies are employed by stakeholders to address grievances and foster reconciliation. Research by Okonkwo and Bassey (2023) highlights the role of strategic communication in mitigating conflicts and rebuilding trust in divided communities. This study explores the role of public relations in conflict resolution in Jos North LGA, focusing on its strategies, effectiveness, and challenges.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to use PR in conflict resolution, Jos North LGA continues to experience recurring tensions, often fueled by misinformation, prejudice, and inadequate communication. The lack of effective PR strategies undermines reconciliation efforts and prolongs conflict.
